Thanks SU1 and Bruce4. U-Tec support support had me remove the “U Home” and install a beta version (appears to be version 3.5.1.14) from a link they sent me. Then I re-configured Auto Unlock.
Initially I noted no improvement after walking 350 meters away….but then we went for a drive and about ~400 meters away I got the “Away” notification. When we returned it said it automatically unlocked - but I had pulled the battery so it didn’t unlock.
Next day (today) I had to go to the post office and so tested again. This time the “Away” notification happened about ~900 meters away (even though the Geofence Range was set to 300 meters), and when I got home the lock successfully unlocked first try.
I’ll keep testing…..
I have to admit it still not a nice as our Tesla’s Bluetooth unlocking but at least at works.
The “Away” notification happens when the app reads the GPS. It probably doesn’t do this continuously so the faster you are moving the more possible delay in sending the notification. Also, I believe there is a setting that provides the app with higher accuracy location information (I could be wrong about that).
Also, after more testing if you still need greater AU reliability, you can put the bridge on a separate network - IoT or guest - from the network your phone is on.
Glad to hear there is some success to your story. I been running ver. 3.2.13.14 for the last few days & so far 100% success with AU function. I will note that the “Away” mode trigger is also not so accurate for me but the “Back” mode is pretty bang on virtually 90% at the same spot when I drive back. I will keep testing newer update versions & revert. I just got a pair of new Bolt Matter locks, installed 1 unit & after much tinkering, have finally got it to work with “Home Assistant” & my Aqara M3 Hub. At last all my home automation devices may finally work from one app. More testing to come….. ;))
I have mine working with the Google Home app on my iPhone. After I’ve gotten into bed, I have GH lock the door (if I haven’t remembered), turn off a few lights that were turned on at sunset (smart bulbs from Utec and others), and start my Roomba. It all went smoothly. Good luck.
I have had the same issues. I’ve reset completely, cleared data and cache on the app and even uninstalled and reinstalled the app - to no avail. Was opening maybe 15% of the time. I had a ticket open and they sent me an APK - helped just a bit. they finally sent me a new lock. Started completely fresh with the app again and while it’s much better - opens automatically approximately 80% of the time it’s still not consistent. Tech told me last week there is an updated app but its not yet in my google play store. very frustrating!
If you are getting 80% opening, you are doing pretty well. Autounlock “failure” is the result of your phone not making a Bluetooth connection with your lock. My guess, based on my experiences and those on this thread, is that these missed connections are most likely due to the inability of the lock to communicate over both BT and WiFi at the same time.
One thing you can try is to put your lock on a “guest” or “IoT” (Internet of Things) network, if your router has one. This would prevent your phone from joining the lock’s wifi network when you approach. You really have nothing to lose if this helps, since when you are away you are still able to connect.
I don’t know enough about how these channels work and can only guess that the app eventually gives up trying to make the connection… so maybe an app update will help.
I forgot to ask about whether you get notified when you leave and re-enter the geofence. If, for some reason, your app misses these transitions, then autounlock will not happen since the app doesn’t “know” that you’ve left and returned to the lock.
If you do have notifications set, have you noticed the app missing either transitions?
No - i’m about 50-60%. Their support is horrible. All i get is we’ll pass it on to IT then i get an automated email stating - “we haven’t heard from you. We assume your problem is resolved”. I then respond to that and then i get a real person who just again says… we passed it on to IT.
this is a big problem. i was in my home, door was locked and then i heard it lock and unlock repeatedly. Here’s the log. New batteries we installed days prior. I sent to their customer service as i’m still working with them on the failure of the auto unlock - which now seems worse - about 50%. haven’t heard back yet.
Well, now a new development. The lock stays green and gives if a single chirp periodically. New batteries. I noticed it was disconnected from my 2.4ghz wifi. I could not get it to reconnect. Wifi signal was strong but I rebooted router anyway. Still no connections. I removed device from app and tried a full reset but holding in the reset button didn’t trigger the reset. I left it overnight.
Next day I went to set it up again in the app and it connected to my WiFi. Locked worked fine the rest of the day but today it’s back to the disconnected wifi.
They haven’t responded to my ongoing open ticket for the lack of auto unlock working, nor the very scary and unacceptable action of the lock turning on and off on its own, as evidenced in my screenshots above.
I am done with this company. This is my second lock and it’s been frustrating since day one.
I’m demanding a full refund. Any recommendations on another lock. One that actually works and is reliable?
It’s been 3 years. Dissapointed that there’s not a fix for this yet. This feature was the reason i bought this item and it doesnt work properly. The community would like to know if there’s any updates regarding this.
